La Curandera Mural
La Curandera is a powerful figure, deeply connected to nature and ancient healing traditions. Created during my travels through a Mayan community during the pandemic, this piece reflects the wisdom I gained while staying with a Mayan family who shared their traditional ways of living. With multiple arms, she holds sacred tools of healing—a copal for cleansing, an egg in water for a limpieza, the four elements, and medicinal herbs—symbolizing the many ways she nurtures and restores balance. She is also a partera (midwife), guiding new life into the world.
Without realizing it at the time, I intuitively painted 13 golden dots around her head, only later learning the deep spiritual significance of this number in Mayan culture. This mural is one of my earliest expressions of cultural storytelling and my deep passion for the natural world, and it continues to shape my artistic journey today.
